Dublin is a city in Alameda County, in the Tri-Valley area of the East Bay region. One of the Bay Area’s youngest cities, it covers a total area of about 15 square miles. As of 2016 population estimates, approximately 59,800 residents live in this suburban city. It is considered one of the fastest growing cities in California.
Located at the intersection of I-580 and I-680, Dublin has also been christened as “The Crossroads,” with Downtown Oakland and San Jose both approximately 35 minutes away. Even better, Dublin is served by two BART stations, making commutes to nearby cities relatively stress-free.

History
Although Dublin is one of the newest cities in the San Francisco Bay Area, its history dates back to the 18th century. The land the city currently sits on was once part of Amador Valley, a sprawling land grant awarded to Mexican soldier Jose Maria Amador, who also served as Mission San Jose’s administrator. In its earliest days, Amador Valley was wilderness, save for a small collection of adobe homes and buildings scattered in the area.
In 1850, Amador sold 1,000 acres of his land to a group of Irish settlers led by Jeremiah Fallon and Michael Murray. This led to the construction of several family homes, with the activity attracting more settlers to the area. The town then became known as Murray.
More growth followed in the area, with shops, churches, and the first schoolhouse in the Amador-Livermore Valley built in Murray. In the 1890s, locals started to refer to the town as Dublin after the Irish capital in reference to the large numbers of Irish settlers in the area. Almost a hundred years later, in 1982, Dublin was finally incorporated as a city.
